OpenWay, a digital payment platform, has forayed into the Francophone African market.
The company has forged a long-term technology alliance with a Moroccan tier-1 bank to facilitate its digital transformation strategy.
This development is set to benefit other financial institutions in Morocco and Tunisia, as it opens doors for them to integrate the Way4 platform into their operations.
The Way4 platform, developed by OpenWay, provides a set of tools for financial institutions to introduce and manage digital payment services that are available in real-time, around the clock.
It is designed to enable the consolidation of various payment products, including cards, digital wallets, and merchant services, on a single platform, thereby streamlining payment processes.
OpenWay regional sales director Jean-Philippe Wolyniec said: “Progress in Africa is not a solo act—it is a community journey. We are proud to co-create impact with our clients and support their mission to deliver inclusive, secure, and future-ready payment experiences.”
The company’s expansion strategy includes the formation of a local team in North Africa to provide tailored support to clients in the region, complemented by the company’s global delivery expertise and access to a network of industry specialists.
Last month, the company collaborated with SanuPay, a payment processor based in the UAE, to introduce the first credit card issued within Ethiopia.
The credit card infrastructure is powered by OpenWay’s Way4 platform, providing services including card issuance, transaction acquiring, switching, and mobile wallet management.
