Benchmark NSE Nifty closed 143.05 points down at 24968.4 amid selling in frontline bluechip counters.
However, stocks such as Shriram EPC(PP), HDB Financial Servic, BDR Buildcon, IndInfravit Trust and Aditya Birla Lifesty, touched their fresh 52-week lows.
Overall, 15 shares ended in the green in Nifty50 index, while 35 closed in the red.
In the Nifty 50 index, Wipro, Bajaj Finance, Tata Steel, ONGC and Nestle India were among top gainers during the day, while Axis Bank, Shriram Finance, BEL, HDFC Life and Bharti Airtel ended in the red.
The BSE Sensex closed 501.51 points down at 81757.73. Traders piled up positions in IT Enabled Services, General, Tourism & Hospitality, Apparels and Logistics sectors, while selling was witnessed in Auto Ancillaries, Defence, Electric/Electronics, Cables and Rubber sectors during the day.
