The Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is handling the case, questioned Midhun Reddy for several hours in Vijayawada before arresting him around 7:30 pm.
Confirming the arrest, Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha told PTI, “Yes (he has been arrested). The process (to produce him before a court) is going on.”
Midhun Reddy, who represents the Rajampet constituency, had arrived in Vijayawada earlier in the day to appear before the SIT. His arrest follows the detention of other accused in the case, including Dhanunjay Reddy, Krishna Mohan Reddy, and Balaji Govindappa.
YSRCP hits back
Reacting to the arrest, the opposition YSRCP accused Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of using the case as a tool for political revenge. Party leader Malladi Vishnu called the action part of a “vindictive conspiracy” against leaders close to YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
“But we will bounce back to call the bluff of Chandrababu Naidu,” Vishnu said in a statement. “The more vindictive the actions of the Naidu government, the stronger our resolve becomes to fight back and expose the failures and corruption of the current coalition government.” Senior YSRCP leader L Appi Reddy also defended Midhun Reddy, saying he comes from a respected political family and had shown respect for the law by voluntarily attending the inquiry. “I am confident that justice will prevail,” he told PTI Videos. The case is still under investigation.
