initiatives by law ministry
We are focussing on promoting alternate dispute resolution (ADR) mechanism to reduce pendency of cases in the Supreme Court. We have held several conferences inside and outside the country. We have requested several high courts to take it forward so that disputes could be resolved mutually but also have legal sanctity.upcoming monsoon session
I hope the next session would be more productive and people-centric issues would be discussed. The Opposition has been demanding a discussion on Operation Sindoor. We are also not running away from the discussion. But, it should be held as per the rules of Parliament. Many of our members have also given notice for this discussion.
executive & judiciary
The role of the judiciary, executive and legislature has been well defined in the Constitution. And all these three branches of governance should act according to the role defined in the Constitution. There should be coordination between the three. We always prioritise better coordination between the executive and judiciary.
Justice Varma’s removal
This issue is now with the MPs. I have been told that the Opposition is on board on this issue and many MPs from various opposition parties have signed on the motion to remove Justice Varma. Thereafter, the presiding officer will form a three-member committee which will have three months’ time to submit its report. In between, the respective presiding officers will keep informing the house on the status of the inquiry.Justice Varma moving the SC
Yes, he has gone to the Supreme Court against the Supreme Court’s in-house committee and it is his right. But it has nothing to do with the removal process in parliament.
judicial appointments
The discussion on judicial appointments and judicial accountability has been going on for several decades. As and when any government brings any reforms, the Supreme Court also takes a call on it. Recently, the Supreme Court had suo-motu taken several steps and made public its judges’ assets. Subjects on judicial accountability are also being discussed by a parliamentary committee as well.
