This move comes as part of Tesla’s broader expansion strategy in India. In June, the company leased a commercial space in Mumbai’s Kurla West, which is expected to serve as a vehicle service facility. This brings Tesla’s total commercial properties in India to four— including an engineering hub in Pune, a registered office in Bengaluru, and a temporary office near Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC).
Despite recent changes in its India leadership, Tesla appears to be continuing with its planned rollout. The company’s India head, Prashanth Menon, stepped down last month after nine years. According to Bloomberg News, Tesla’s China-based team is managing India operations for now, and no successor has been named.
Union Minister for Heavy Industries HD Kumaraswamy had stated in June that Tesla is not currently interested in setting up manufacturing in India. “Tesla only wants to open showrooms and sell imported cars,” he said.
