The company said in its release that this segment is “specially curated to meet the needs of price-conscious users and provide affordable options to the high-frequency Gen-Z consumer.”
Under the 99 store, Swiggy will be offering quick-prep dishes at a flat Rs 99 and free delivery on orders under the ‘eco saver’ delivery mode. The eco saver delivery mode groups multiple orders together to reduce the number of trips.
“The 99 Store is our way of making sure daily meals don’t burn a hole in your wallet. We have worked closely with our restaurant partners and delivery teams to make everyday meals more affordable without cutting corners,” said Rohit Kapoor, chief executive of Swiggy Food Marketplace, in a prepared statement.
This comes at a time when Rapido, in which Swiggy is an investor, is entering the food delivery segment. On Tuesday ET reported that Rapido is set to roll out a pilot of its food delivery service, Ownly, in Bengaluru over the next 8-10 days.
Rapido is challenging the duopoly of Swiggy and Zomato in India’s food delivery sector by taking commissions in the range of 8-15% from restaurants, compared to the 16-30% levied by Zomato and Swiggy.
