NEW DELHI: The Monsoon Session of Parliament, beginning Monday, is expected to be stormy as the opposition INDIA bloc and the BJP-led government prepare to face off on several issues.The opposition has demanded discussions on the Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor, and what they term as a “drift” in foreign policy, insisting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should personally respond to these debates.Here’s what we can expect from the upcoming Monsoon session of Parliament:Stack of bills The government has listed seven bills for consideration and eight more for introduction, discussion, and passage.Among the bills scheduled for the Monsoon session are:

Pahalgam attack & Trump’s ceasefire claimAhead of the session, the INDIA bloc resolved on Saturday to raise the issue of the Pahalgam terrorist attack, where perpetrators remain at large, as well as US President Donald Trump’s repeated claims of brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan post-Operation Sindoor.Senior opposition leaders, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, parliamentary party chief Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah, Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren, NCP(SP)’s Sharad Pawar, Uddhav Thackeray (SS-UBT), Abhishek Banerjee (TMC), Tejashwi Yadav (RJD), Ram Gopal Yadav (SP), Tiruchi Siva (DMK), MA Baby (CPI-M), D Raja (CPI), and CPI(ML) general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya, took part in an online strategy meeting.“We discussed how to highlight the government’s failures and atrocities affecting the people. The latest report by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has stirred controversy over an alleged bias, with critics accusing the agency of suggesting pilot error before completing the investigation.The government has declined to comment on the report until the final version is released.“This is a preliminary report. The AAIB has done a commendable and professional job while adhering to international protocols,” civil aviation minister K Rammohan Naidu said.“Let’s not jump to conclusions. It would be immature to comment at this stage.”

Impeachment of justice Yashwant Varma

The opposition also intends to bring up the impeachment motion against Justice Yashwant Varma, who faces scrutiny after burnt wads of currency were discovered at his residence following a fire incident.If the government moves a resolution for his removal, the opposition will also push for early action against Justice Shekhar Yadav, against whom a removal notice has been pending in the Rajya Sabha since December 2024, PTI reported citing sources.That notice accuses Justice Yadav of delivering a hate speech last year. Several opposition parties want this issue addressed during the session as well.AAP‘sexit from INDIA blocThe Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will not sit with the opposition in the House after formally exiting the INDIA bloc ahead of floor coordination talks.The party said the alliance was meant only for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and accused both BJP and Congress of a “secret, corrupt deal.”AAP national media in-charge Anurag Dhanda posted on X: “The real alliance is between BJP and Congress behind the scenes. Rahul Gandhi only says what helps Modi politically. In return, Modi protects the Gandhi family from jail. Neither is interested in delivering basic services like education, healthcare, or clean water to the people.”
