MGA Nexus Underwriting’s CEO Rouse Faces Internal Investigation for ‘Offensive’ Email

Nexus Underwriting, the London-based managing general agent, is investigating a “wholly inappropriate and offensive ” email sent by CEO Stuart Rouse.

“We are aware of an internal email that has been shared externally and contains language and references that are wholly inappropriate and offensive. We acknowledge the seriousness of this matter and unreservedly apologise for the offence caused,” the company said in a statement.

“The content of the message does not reflect the values of Nexus Underwriting or its stakeholders. We are treating this with urgency and have launched an internal investigation to understand how this occurred,” Nexus continued.

“We are committed to fostering a respectful, inclusive environment for all our colleagues, and we deeply regret that this standard has not been met in this instance.”

An article published in The Times of London on Friday, July 11 reported that a “laddish” email was sent by Rouse “to 350 of the company’s workers to thank a colleague who was retiring after 46 years.”

In the June 30 email, Rouse spoke of the retiring colleague’s ability to “include the words ‘hairy’ and ‘growler’ into a conversation, quite often leaving the room to howl,” said the Times article.

The article reported that the retiring veteran employee was “mortified” and was not known for using “such coarse language.”

Nexus was launched in 2008 and was purchased by Brown & Brown in 2023 as part of the acquisition of Kentro companies, which included Nexus, Xenia, Millstream, Capstone Brokers and Spectrum Risk Management.

Brown & Brown did not respond to enquiries about this matter.
