Accessibility-Focused Metro Initiatives : Accessibility Improvement

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is running a comprehensive renovation and accessibility improvement initiative at three key Metro-North Harlem Line stations in the Bronx — Williams Bridge, Woodlawn, and Botanical Garden. This project, which began in June 2025, focuses on modernizing infrastructure to meet current accessibility standards while enhancing passenger convenience and safety.

Among the planned upgrades for accessibility improvement are the complete reconstruction of Williams Bridge and Woodlawn stations, each of which will be equipped with two new elevators to ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Additionally, all platforms at the three stations will be replaced and outfitted with snow-melting technology to mitigate winter hazards. Further improvements include rebuilding platform foundations, replacing staircases, and extending platforms to facilitate smoother boarding.
